The bikepacking weekend "Viroinval" lets you discover the beautiful nature in the Viroinval valley. You explore the area from a mountain bike. You take the necessary equipment, including the bivouac equipment and food, with you on the mountain bike. This way we can enjoy the peace, adventure and adventure together for a few days completely autonomously.
The bikepacking tour has a total length of approximately 90 km, spread over an evening and two days. You are self-sufficient in terms of food, drink, clothing and accommodation. Of course, Trailgrip is happy to help you on your way and we advise you on how to best tackle this. Investing in special bikepacking bags is not a must, we offer you the option to rent bikepacking bags from us.
Two weeks before our departure, Trailgrip organizes an information evening. We are currently giving out a lot of tips, you will receive an extensive briefing and we will deliver your bikepacking bags if you have chosen to rent them.
At the time of our appointment we meet in front of the train station of Mariembourg. If you wish to come by car, there is free parking at the Mariembourg train station where you can leave your car behind. You are welcomed by us and we leave right away for a short but tough evening trip to our first overnight place.
After a well-deserved night's sleep, we ride deeper in to the forest of Viroinval and along the reservoir Barrage de du Rome. We take a break at a cozy picnicplace and if we are thirsty enough we can take a pitstop at a local bar. After this we ride further in to the forest. We end the day at our sleeping place with an amazing view over the village Mazee.
Strengthened by a good breakfast, we set out for the last day in the direction of Vierves. At the "Les canons de Vierves" memorial site we are treated on a beautiful view. We descend to nice picnic spot near the river “Le Viroin” next to the ruins from the castle “Haute Roche”. After lunch we drive along a ridge to the Belgian canyon “Fondry des Chiens” for a visit. After which we descend towards Mariembourg, the final stop of this adventure.
We end the weekend in brasserie des Fagnes where they brew the beer “Super des Fagnes”. The possibility exists to grab a bite to eat here before returning home.
Starting- and ending point of this trip is at the train station of Mariembourg. We choose this place for various reasons. You can travel by train or you can leave your car at the free parkingplace in front of the train station.
Adventure and nature share a first place on Trailgrip travels. So don't expect a luxurious bed, but relax on a campfire and a warm sleeping bag.
Trailgrip provides a few tarps for this trip. These are waterproof sails that protect us against wind and light rain. The tarps are tensioned between our bikes or trees. This allows us to camp as true adventurers under the starry sky.
Who sports needs energy! Trailgrip provides decent freeze-dried meals and some energy snacks for on the road. Be sure you can take enough water with you, for example bicycle drinkbottles or a Camelbak. It is useful if these are already filled on departure. Along the road there are several possibilities to fill them with tap water.
As a participant you must have the following equipment. We are happy to advise you on a possible purchase. Or maybe you can borrow certain things from friends or family?
Start bikepacking can take a serious bite out of your budget. That is why we offer our participants the opportunity to rent bikepacking bags. During the online reservation you can indicate which items you wish to rent.
